Sakon Nakhon Wax Castle Festival

Venue: Sakon Nakhon Province, Northeastern Thailand
To celebrate the end of the Buddhist Lent, where monks spend three months in a temple avoiding any kind of travel, an assembly of wax castles will be showcased in the Sakon Nakhon Province. Molded from bee wax, these miniatures shrines and temples are handcrafted by the many talented artists in the province. The occasion is also marked with a mass procession, where the wax castles will be exhibited.

The Illuminated Boat Procession
Date: 9 – 15 October 2008
Venue: Mekong River, Mueang District, Nakhon Phanom
Originally aimed at paying respects to the Lord Buddha, the festival has evolved now to a colorful and vibrant procession of illuminated boats. The procession cum competition attracts many entries from people of all background, including temples and private companies, all hoping for the title of the best illuminated boat. Get your cameras ready and be mesmerized as the lighted boats turn Mekong River into a kaleidoscope of color and light.

River Kwai Bridge Week
Date: 24 November - 5 December 2008
Venue: River Kwai Bridge, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi
Catch historical and archaeological exhibits, carnival, folk and cultural performances at this annual event held at the River Kwai Bridge. Built by the Allied prisoners-of-war during the World War II, the bridge will also be the back drop of a light-and-sound show in remembrance of the historical artifact as well as the construction of the Death Railway.
Loi Krathong Festival
Date: 7 - 12 November 2008
Venue: Chao Phraya River, Bangkok
Loi Krathong is celebrated widely in Thailand and is traditionally performed on the full moon night of the twelfth month in the Thai lunar calendar. Watch as hundreds of water lanterns, better known as Krathongs, being released by devotees to float away bad fortune and to pay respect to Khongkha, the River Goddess.
