TOUR :SINGAPORE ZOO'S NEW JAGUAR

After a six-year break, Singapore Zoo scores another triumph with the latest addition to the jaguar family. Born in July 2009, the well and healthy cub is now out of the off-exhibit den and yard.

Jaguars are heavier-built with shorter legs, more powerful jaws and claws compared to other cats. They are highly dependent on its strength and build rather than speed. A jaguar kills its prey with a single bite to the head which is sometimes powerful enough to puncture the skull. Its strong jaws also allow it to eat armoured creatures such as turtles, armadillos and caimans which are seldom food for other predators.

Singapore Zoo’s zookeepers and veterinarians are ecstatic over the recent birth of the new cub, and are committed to boosting the population of animal species threatened by survival in the wild.
