Getting Around by Air

Getting Around by Water

Located 10 minutes from the city centre, the Singapore Cruise Centre at the World Trade Centre offers harbor cruises and ferry services to Singapore’s islands, Malaysia and the Indonesian Riau islands. Ferries to Sentosa (tel: 6534 9339; website: www.islandcruise.com.sg) leaves every 20 minutes starting at 0730.

Getting Around by Rail

The efficient Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) (tel: 1 800 336 8900, in Singapore only; website: www.smrt.com.sg) covers much of the island and is a breeze from getting from one location to the next.

Getting Around by Road

Singapore practices the left hand drive. Vehicles travelling on some major roads or highways are required to pay toll.

Bus: Service buses are operated by SBS (tel: 1 800 225 5663, in Singapore only; website: www.sbstransit.com.sg). Cheap and efficient, its wide network covers the whole of Singapore.

Car hire: Car hire/self drive firms is available with offices at the airport and in hotels.

Documentation: A national driving license is sufficient for visitors staying in the country for up to one month. Visits exceeding one month would require an International Driving Permit.

Getting Around Towns and Cities

Trishaws: Tour the streets of Singapore in an exciting way onboard this traditional chauffeur-pedalled transport.

Taxi: Numerous and relatively cheap, they can be flagged down in the streets or picked up outside hotels and official taxi ranks. Taxis are usually metered, though it is possible to negotiate hourly rates for round-island tours.

Metro: One of the most advanced metro systems in the world, these trains operate 0530 – 0300 (0600-0000 on Sundays and public holidays), serving stations every six minutes on average. Having over 40 stations linking the city centre and suburbs, this efficient and comfortable option provides visitors with a cheap way to explore Singapore.
